Vacation Pictures; Doctor Who Cruise #2

Judi and I took our second "Doctor Who Sci-Fi" cruise with Dan Harris; Sylvester McCoy "the 7th Doctor"; Lisa Bowerman "Professor Bernice Summerfield"; Frazer Hines "Jamie McCrimmon"; and Rob Shearman, author of the best Doctor Who CD Audio, "the Holy Terror". Here's one of the amazing towel animals created by our ship's stewards. This years managerie was even more creative than last year's. This one was a lucky animal for me, I won $30 at the Black Jack tables during the first day at sea (Monday, October 25, 2004).

If it's Tuesday, it must be Progreso, Mexico. Here's Judi doing a "Rocky" impersonation at the top of the Mayan Chichen Itza pyramid. Can you hear the Rocky theme?

Here's another view of the Chichen Itza (alias "Chicken Pizza") pyramid. There are 91 steps on each of the 4 sides (91 * 4 + 1 = 365).

Here's the ball court at Chichen Itza. The "hoop" is 20 feet off the ground. The "captain" runs on a ledge, and he's the only one that can score. He can't use his hands. I won't mention the fate of the losers.

Here's the Mayan observatory at Chichen Itza. The Mayans developed two calendars that intertwine (like gears); one is the solar calendar based on 365 days, and the other is the lunar calendar based on 240 days (9 months).

On Wednesday morning, we landed at Cozumel island. Judi, Tina, and I took a walk along the water front.

Here's an interesting store front mask across the street from the water front.

In the afternoon, we took a boat ride on a catamaran with a big sail to a reef and snorkeled for about 45 minutes. The water was clear and warm (around 85 degrees F). Then they boated us to our own private beach where we played beach volleyball and kayaked with "sit on top" tandem kayaks. This picture was taken by Stephen (the director of the first Doctor Who video to feature the 7th Doctor and Bernice).

On Thursday, we landed at Belize via Tender boats; then we took a bus ride to the Mayan Xunatunich (alias "Tuna Sandwich") ruins. This is another picture borrowed from Stephen.

Friday and Saturday were "days at sea"; so we did extensive filming of our fan video; "Doctor Who and the Crystal Conundrum"; starring Sylvester McCoy, Lisa Bowerman, and Frazer Hines (not in this picture) as Doctor Who, Professor Bernice Summerfield, and Jamie McCrimmon.

Also appearing in the video are the Twin Towers of Rassilon (alias Mike at 6'7" and John at 6'8") playing jockies Willie and Johnny.

Here's a picture of the 7th Doctor, Sylvester McCoy, standing next to his TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In the Shower) which is disguised as the ship's aft shower.

Here's a picture of the director and the star of the video, Sylvester and Stephen. On Friday, I entered a ping pong tournament. I won my round-of-16 game 22 - 20; but lost to the eventual winner of the tournament, Mateos, 10 - 21, in the quarterfinals.

On Sunday, the ship (the Elation) made a U-Turn in the channel on the Galveston docks.

On Sunday afternoon, we took a tour of NASA. This is a picture of the entrance with Judi, Jen, Rob, Lisa, Stephen, and Cill.
